The Baltimore Orioles were up 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning against the Colorado Rockies. With the game-tying run at second base, Jake McCarthy of the Rockies hit a shot to straightaway center field.

Colton Cowser had to run a long way even to have a chance. But he didn't just get a chance to make the catch; he made one of the greatest home run robberies in MLB history.

According to OptaSTATS, Cowser's unbelievable, must-see home run robbery, which would've been a walk-off, is the only robbery where the ball was expected to travel 425 feet or more. No HR robbery has been as impressive as this.

"Jake McCarthy's bid for a walkoff HR went an estimated 425 feet but ended up in Colton Cowser's glove to end the game," OptaSTATS shared. "That's the longest distance of a game-ending robbery of a potential walkoff HR in MLB's wild card era (since 1995)."

There are plenty of home run robberies every single season. It's always an impressive play to some degree, but this one from Cowser has a strong case as being the best-ever.

Not only did he have to run a long way just to get a chance at making the catch, but he also had to jump up the wall quite far and hang on through contact with the wall. This game-ending catch is one of the greatest plays in MLB history.

This would be an incredible, all-time play regardless of when it happened in the game. But it not only ended the game; it was also the only reason the Orioles won.

If he didn't make this catch, it would've been a walk-off two-run homer for McCarthy, giving the Rockies the win and the Orioles a crushing loss in a very tight AL Wild Card race.

Baltimore could wind up making the postseason this year thanks to one win, and this incredible, unbelievable catch might be the reason why the Orioles make the 2026 MLB postseason.

This is going to be a play remembered for a very long time and will be in highlight reels for the best catches ever made for just as long.
