That's why San Francisco called up a wideout with familiar genes for a workout on Tuesday, as they hosted Brenden Rice at their facility.
Rice, the 24-year-old son of NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, played at Colorado from 2020-21 and USC from 2022-23. Between the two schools, he earned All-Conference honors once and caught 103 passes for 1,674 yards and 20 touchdowns in 39 games.
The Los Angeles Chargers took Rice in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he failed to make the roster out of camp. Since then, he's had stints with the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders and Green Bay Packers.
To this point, Rice has yet to play in a game, so it's unlikely that he'd make much of an impact if San Francisco chooses to sign him.
