Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick will have to do without Carlos Baleba until the international break.

The 22-year-old became the club’s third midfield addition last month, and the club’s fourth (and last) senior summer signing after Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow.
But while Santos and Tielemans made their full debuts on the opening day of the season against Hull, the Cameroonian has been made to wait due to an injury he suffered earlier in the summer.

While many observers thought Baleba’s chances of joining Man Utd faded following his injury, INEOS still decided to invest £70 million in the battling midfielder who was eager to join them a year ago.
However, the downside is that Carrick has been operating with limited options in the first few weeks of the season. He is currently relying on Tielemans and Mainoo as a midfield tandem, with Santos as the main option off the bench.
In recent weeks, it was suggested that Baleba is eyeing a return to action in the Manchester Derby.
But according to the Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall, the midfielder star won’t be available for the clash against Man City.
The source also expects the Cameroonian to miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against his former employers, Brighton, as well as next Sunday’s Premier League contest versus Fulham.
In other words, Baleba will remain on the sidelines until the extended international break, before returning to action in October.
He’ll be hoping to be ready for the Premier League showdown against Tottenham on October 10 at Old Trafford.

Although the additional wait can be frustrating, MUFC signed Baleba on a five-year deal, with the hopes of finding a young player capable of becoming a stalwart at the club for the next 10 years or so.
With the Cameroonian international unavailable, Santos is the only midfield enforcer at Carrick’s disposal.
And yet, the gaffer has opted to drop the Brazilian from his starting lineup in favour of what many perceive as a light midfield partnership of Mainoo and Tielemans.
While the Englishman and Belgian have been providing creativity in the middle of the park, the team is lacking a physically imposing midfielder who can drive the ball forward through sheer pace and strength; hence why Baleba is considered the missing piece in Carrick’s tactical jigsaw.
Man Utd fans are thus impatiently awaiting the launch of the Mainoo-Baleba partnership.
