LaNorris Sellers gave NFL scouts plenty to think about on Saturday, and the South Carolina football quarterback wasted little time showing why he has first-round potential against Oklahoma.

With the game scoreless in the first quarter at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Sellers took off on a 15-yard touchdown run to give the Gamecocks a 7-0 lead on their third drive of the afternoon.
It was only the beginning of a huge day for the junior. Sellers completed 19 of 24 passes for a season-high 301 yards and three touchdowns, with two interceptions. He also ran for 96 yards and two scores on 13 carries, finishing with 397 total yards and five total touchdowns as South Carolina cruised to a 42-25 win over the Sooners in Norman.

Sellers’ highlights were not limited to the ground. After Oklahoma’s Kip Lewis tied the game with a 30-yard pick-six, Christian Clark put South Carolina back in front with a 1-yard run. With the Gamecocks up 14-7 in the second quarter, Sellers stepped up in the pocket on third-and-12 and launched an 84-yard touchdown pass to DJ Black. He then hit Nyck Harbor for a score before halftime to send South Carolina into the break up 28-10, and later found Mazeo Bennett Jr. for a 79-yard touchdown.
The Gamecocks dominated from start to finish. They outgained Oklahoma 307-71 in the first half and 521-359 overall against a defense that ranked 11th nationally in total defense and had not allowed more than 382 yards in a game all season.
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns, both to Ivan Carreon, but managed just 25 passing yards in the first half.
The win marked South Carolina’s third straight victory, following a 27-24 upset of Tennessee the week prior. The Gamecocks improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in SEC play, while the Sooners fell to 4-4 and 2-3.
Sellers’ recent surge has also boosted his NFL Draft stock. After a rough start to the season, he climbed to No. 4 in ClutchPoints’ 2027 NFL Draft quarterback rankings last week. Evaluators have long been split on the dual-threat passer, but performances like this one will only strengthen the case for him as a first-round pick.
South Carolina will look to keep rolling when it hosts Texas A&M next Saturday.
