The UCLA Bruins have turned heads this season. They are the only undefeated team left in the Big Ten, and head coach Bob Chesney expected nothing less from his squad.

UCLA sits atop the Big Ten standings (6-0, 4-0). They come off a 17-7 win over Wisconsin on Saturday and have been picking teams off one by one. Concerns remain about the offense without Nico Iamaleava out for the season, but they won their first game without him.

"We never put like limits on what we did or could not do. And we also didn't make excuses. Like, hey, let's just get bowl eligible; that was never a thing either. That's an excuse for why you might have success," Chesney said in his post-game press conference.

"Not really major expectations in my mind; we were going to go about this the way you have to go about this."

Backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach stepped up in a huge way for UCLA. He completed 22-of-33 passes for 264 passing yards and an interception. He threw his only interception on a Hail Mary at the end of the first half. Dieffenbach looked as if he had been there before.

The Bruins' defense has looked much more physical this season, and their record reflects that.

Chesney was hired in December 2025 and has already led the Bruins to their best start since 2022. The Bruins finished 3-9 in their 2025 campaign.

The Bruins will stay at home as they face Michigan State on Saturday, October 24 (3:30 p.m. ET, CBS)
