Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms has urged Shedeur Sanders to stay with the Cleveland Browns despite growing speculation over the rookie’s future and potential trade rumours.

Sanders lost Cleveland’s quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson before the season but Simms believes the situation could eventually work in his favour.
Watson has a history of injuries while Cleveland’s offence has shown positive signs early in the campaign. For Simms, that makes staying put a better option than trying to learn a new system elsewhere.
Chris Simms tells Shedeur Sanders to stay ready for Cleveland Browns
Speaking on Pro Football Talk, Simms explained why he does not expect the Browns to trade Sanders before the deadline.
“I don’t see it either; I’m with you there. I don’t think this is like, “Oh, he’s gonna try to make something happen before the trade deadline,” Simms said.
He added, “What I would tell him right now is, ‘Hey, just be ready where you are at. You’re at a place where you know the offence, they got a little positive vibes going. The playcaller is pretty good. You’re behind a guy who has a history of being hurt a lot over the last four or five years.’”
Simms’ point is simple. Sanders may not be starting now but his opportunity could arrive if Watson misses time or struggles.
He believes Sanders should therefore focus on being prepared rather than rushing towards a fresh situation where he would have to learn another playbook.
Sanders also recently hired an agent, adding another layer to the speculation around his future.
For now, though, Simms believes the Browns are the best place for him to develop and wait for his chance. If that opportunity arrives, Sanders will need to make the most of it.
