In a post on X, Orlovsky, who played as a quarterback for the University of Connecticut, said the death of his sister Christine's husband, Federico Lascano, was an unimaginable tragedy for their family. He said Lascano leaves behind his wife and three boys.
"There are no words to describe the heartbreak of losing a husband, a partner, and a father so suddenly," he said. "In the midst of trying to process this devastating loss, my sister is now facing the overwhelming reality of navigating life as a solo parent and a single-income household, all while helping her boys cope with the loss of their dad."
Orlovsky shared a GoFundMe fundraiser set up for his sister's family, which had raised $107,000 of its $150,000 goal as of Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
"No family should have to face this kind of heartbreak, and no one should have to worry about how they will manage financially while trying to put the pieces of their lives back together," he said. "We are asking for your help in supporting my sister and her boys during this incredibly painful and uncertain time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease some of the financial burden and allow them the time and space they need to grieve, heal, and begin navigating this new reality."
