Eagles Snap Up Center after Steelers Tryout

The Philadelphia Eagles signed center James Brockermeyer to their practice squad on Wednesday, just a few days after he tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brockermeyer was one of nine players and four offensive linemen that the Steelers hosted for tryouts at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Friday, along with Andrew Coker, Gus Hartwig and Tomas Rimac for tryouts on Friday.

Instead, he signed with the practice squad of the Eagles, who traded away starting center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.

Brockermeyer, 24, was an undrafted free agent this spring out of Miami, who spent time with the Atlanta Falcons this training camp and preseason. He was a starter at TCU in 2024 and with the Hurricanes in 2025, when he won a national championship.

The 6-foot-3, 298-pound Brockermeyer posted average athletic testing numbers in the pre-draft process, putting up 28 bench press reps and running a 5.30-second 40-yard dash as part of a 5.46 Relative Athletic Score out of 10.

In three preseason games with the Falcons, he appeared in 120 snaps all at center. In 67 pass protection opportunities, he allowed jus three pressures, per Pro Football Focus.
