Philadelphia 76ers‘ newest star, Jaylen Brown, played in his first NBA preseason game for the franchise on Monday. Brown was the only star player who played for Philly. Stars LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid did not suit up against the Knicks. Incoming second-year player VJ Edgecombe also played against New York and finished with 12 points and seven assists.
After the outstanding display from Brown, Edgecombe gave him major praise.

Brown is coming off his best season, when he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists. The 2024 Finals MVP was the Celtics’ No. 1 option for most of the 2025-26 campaign. His former co-star, Jayson Tatum, missed most of last season due to his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.
However, Boston was eliminated by the 76ers in the opening round of the postseason. Over the summer, the Celtics made a shocking deal with the 76ers and traded Brown in exchange for Paul George and two first-round picks (in the 2028 and 2031 NBA drafts) and two second-round picks (2028 and 2030 NBA drafts).
Brown is focused on being one of the most important players for the 76ers, as they are expected to be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
Jaylen Brown Already Loves Being Teammates With VJ Edgecombe
Jalen Brown is getting to know his new teammates. The veteran star will face challenges at first, since he will share the floor with three other All-Stars. Additionally, VJ Edgecombe has a ton of upside when he plays. Although he’s still getting used to his new teammates, Brown already loves being with Edgecombe.
“I love VJ, already,” Brown said. “He’s one of my favorite people in the world and we just met. VJ’s going to be great. I’m excited to help him continue to thrive. But his talent level is off the charts.”
Brown said they have similarities in how they play games. The one-time champion said they both like getting to their spots, and they have a similar viewpoint of things. It makes having conversations with Edgecombe easy since they are usually on the same page.
This means Edgecombe is on the right path to becoming an NBA star.
