Golden State Warriors’ 11th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft is already on duty, fulfilling rookie responsibilities at his veterans request.

After winning the National Championship with Michigan, Yaxel Lendeborg comes into the league with a lot of hype and has already made a great impression on the Golden State Warriors‘ head coach and players. He was also announced as a starter in the first preseason game alongside Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Brandon Podziemski, and Al Horford.

However, that does not mean he will be exempt from rookie responsibilities. In his latest media interview, the former Michigan player revealed what tasks he was handed by his veterans.

Yaxel is on speaker duty

Very few players in the NBA have managed to escape rookie hazing. Although Lendeborg did not get into detail about what he was asked to do, the 24-year-old revealed what his main task was.

“I’m doing great, I’m on top of mine,” said Yaxel when asked how he was doing on his rookie duties.

“Before we left, I had to call Draymond and Steph, I would never call them any other time, I was nervous to call, but they, Steph picked up, again Draymond didn’t pick up, but he called me back. He called me back, but I was a little hurt by it. But still, okay, so they answered. I got on top. I got everything I needed. Brought it to the bus. Draymond handed me a big fat speaker. So now I got to carry the speaker around everywhere I go. But I think I’m doing a pretty good job.”

Yaxel already has a great relationship with Green, and the two also engage in playful banter as they are both from opposing programs in Michigan. Before training camp had even started, Green warned Yaxel that the Warriors would bring back rookie hazing as the former Michigan player had lied about the four-time NBA champion not replying to his text.

It looks like the Warriors legend has stuck to his word, but the rookie seems to have no problem and is also putting up brilliant performances in practice, which shows that the veteran leadership is benefiting him greatly. The Warriors already have a long injury list, and with all these players out, they will need their first-round rookie to step up for them if they want to have any chance of being competitive this season.
