· Yahoo Sports
Franz Reindl was elected president of the International Ice Hockey Federation on Friday, narrowly defeating Petr Briza to lead the semi-annual congress in Tenerife, Spain.
The German succeeds Luc Tardif, who announced in March that he wasn’t seeking re-election after serving a five-year term.

Reindl’s term with the IIHF will run through October 2030 after he was elected by a 60-57 margin in the second round of voting.
The most shocking news from the meeting in Spain was that Canada was left without representation on the IIHF’s 15-member council for the first time in three decades after Hockey Canada’s president and CEO, Kathy Henderson, failed to gain election.
The last time a Canadian was not a member of the IIHF council was from 1994 to 1998.
Briza returns as senior vice president and will be joined by council members Mike Trimboli (U.S.), Heikki Hietanen (Finland), Viesturs Koziols (Latvia), Zsuzsanna Kolbenheyer (Hungary), Marta Zawadzka (Poland), Anders Larsson (Sweden), Aivaz Omirkanov (Kyrgyzstan), Susie Jo (South Korea), Igor Nemecek (Slovakia), Merve Tunali (Turkey), Andy Mills (New Zealand), Stoian Batchvarov (Bulgaria) and Sergey Goncharov (Belarus).
