Coach Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears sent a message to the NFL world on Monday Night Football with a masterful performance that led to a 27-7 home win over an irate coach Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles to wrap up Week 3. An injury to left tackle Braxton Jones marred an otherwise great night as Chicago celebrated their big win.

Afterward, Keenum found himself in an exclusive club among some of the biggest names in NFL history, including Tom Brady.

The Bears entered Week 3 on a sour note after Caleb Williams’ painful injury. The pain and suffering on Williams’ face was palpable as he left last week’s game and left a gaping hole on Johnson’s team’s starting lineup. Few expected the Bears to play better with Williams out of Week 3’s contest, but Keenum proved he still has plenty of tread left on the tires in his team’s win.
Keenum, who is now 38 years old and played his college ball at Houston, completed 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. His top receiver was former Johnson protege and former Detroit Lions backup Kalif Raymond, who caught six passes for 90 yards and a touchdown on a busted coverage.
The Bears are 2-1 heading into Week 4’s home game against familiar face Aaron Glenn, who served as defensive coordinator opposite Johnson in Detroit. If Keenum starts, he will have another great chance to match his Week 3 performance against a reeling New York team.
