The Atlanta Falcons were a complete embarrassment on offense with Cooper Rush starting in place of the injured Michael Penix Jr and Tua Tagovailoa. They put up 16 total points and seven turnovers through two weeks and have yet to run a play in the opposition’s red zone. The good news is Rush is back to being QB3 and Penix Jr is ready to return from his latest knee surgery. I know many Seattle Seahawks fans clamored to draft Penix back in 2024, particularly given his ties to Ryan Grubb at Washington. The Falcons shocked everyone by taking Penix at No. 8 overall despite giving Kirk Cousins a massive contract, and needless to say things have not gone as smoothly as hoped in Atlanta.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are 1-1 but still without Micah Parsons until at least October. Their starting right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is done for the season, wide receiver Jayden Reed is out with a back injury, and they cannot run the ball at all. Jordan Love has a lot on his shoulders to keep the Packers on track for another playoff appearance. This is Green Bay’s home opener after road games at the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. It’s worth noting that the Packers’ first-round pick in 2027 would go to the Jets only if Green Bay finishes with a worse record than the Dallas Cowboys, as I’ve explained here.
