Giants Reunite With All-Star Reliever After Trading Him Last Year

Camilo Doval was recently designated for assignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates and has been claimed by the San Francisco Giants.
Doval spent the first four and a half years of his career with the Giants and was an All-Star closer for them in 2023, leading the National League in saves. However, the Giants traded him to the Yankees in 2025. His time with the Yankees was not great, and he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates at this year's deadline.

When the Pirates acquired Doval, they were still alive in the Wild Card race and desperately needed bullpen help. However, they quickly fell out of contention, and Doval's numbers were not great, but better than they were with the Yankees. Doval had a 3.79 ERA in 20 games with the Giants, and a 4.54 ERA in 44 games with the Yankees this year.
Doval has one more year of club control, and the Giants will look to get him back to the best version of himself. He has proven he can succeed in the organization, but perhaps needs to get back to what he was doing in his early years.
Whether it be a mechanical fix or a tweak to the arsenal, the Giants may have the best shot at getting him right. Perhaps the familiarity with the organization will do Doval some good. This is a low risk move for the Giants, and Doval could be a great arm for them if they can fix him.
