Jaheim Singletary injury update: Iowa State cornerback carted off after scary collision

Iowa State cornerback Jaheim Singletary was injured and carted off the field in the first quarter of the Cyclones’ Week 3 game against Bowling Green on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa.

Singletary was injured when he collided with teammate Willie Breland III while defending Bowling Green wide receiver Winn Sharp. Both players fell to the turf, Sharp brought in the pass and took it to the end zone for a 59-yard touchdown that tied the game, 7-7, with 3:58 remaining in the first quarter.

After the play, Singletary remained on the field, with team medical staff rushing out to tend to him.
A Jacksonville, Florida native, Singletary is in his first season at Iowa State after transferring over from Arkansas.

On a second-and-8 late in the first quarter, Bowling Green quarterback Jay Kastantin connected with Sharp. As Sharp was cutting across the middle on his route, Singletary, who was marking Sharp, followed and collided with Breland, a linebacker who was manning the middle of the field.
After Sharp reached the end zone, Singletary remained on the field. Iowa State coach Jimmy Rogers and Bowling Green coach Eddie George both came out on the field to be near Singletary as he was being treated by medical personnel.
After several minutes, Singletary was loaded onto a cart and taken away. He was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, where he is under observation.

As Singletary was taken away, Cyclones players gathered together to pray for their injured teammate.
On the ensuing kickoff, Iowa State's Cameron Pettaway took it back 100 yards for a touchdown to put his team back ahead.
