Reese was one of 12 players on Team USA’s roster as the Americans took down France in the championship game last weekend. The Atlanta Dream star isn’t denying Clark’s massive impact on women’s basketball. But Reese believes she deserves her flowers as well — because growing the WNBA isn’t a one-player job.
In a reposted clip by Complex on Instagram, Reese said, “I’ll be the person that gets the hate, but at the end of the day I’m growing women’s basketball and helping women’s basketball… I don’t think it’s her fans, I think it’s fans in general… people don’t realize that at the end of the day we’re human.”

And Reese has certainly been doing her part on the court.
The third-year WNBA star turned in a solid FIBA Women’s World Cup campaign with Team USA, averaging 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds across six games. She led the Americans in blocks at 0.8 per game and ranked second on the team in steals with 1.2. Her biggest showing came during the group stage against Czechia, when Reese stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
Then, when the lights were brightest, she made her minutes count. Reese played just nine minutes in the championship game against France but still chipped in three points, three rebounds, a steal, and a block as Team USA cruised to a 97-79 victory and another gold medal.
Long before she became a WNBA fan favorite, Reese was already putting together a decorated résumé. The former LSU Tiger and Maryland Terrapin was a force in college, delivered some unforgettable NCAA Tournament performances, and quickly became one of the league’s most recognizable young stars.
