Chris Olave knows that there are more important things in life than looking cool, and more players should follow his lead.
The Saints wide receiver opted to wear a Guardian Cap in New Orleans' thrilling Week 1 game against the Lions. The NFL requires all players — except quarterbacks and specialists — to wear Guardian Caps during contact practices to prevent head injuries. But for games, players can continue to wear the typical hard-shell helmet without the covering.

Most players have opted against wearing Guardian Caps in games due to aesthetic reasons. After all, they do look a bit odd (though the new design is an improvement). But Olave's family life and injury history ultimately led to the decision to wear the cap going forward.
He openly told reporters that he wanted to do whatever he could to give himself a chance at a normal life after football.

He said:
"I know all the head injuries I've had in my career, so it was just a decision I had made. I got kids now. I want to be able to live the long game. It's not all about football. I want to live a regular life after I'm done with football. I love my kids to death, so I don't really care how it looks no more. Just gotta throw it on. And shoot — it did me good today."
Olave had 10 receptions for 182 yards in Sunday's overtime loss to the Lions. He had suffered five concussions in his playing career, going back to his time at Ohio State.
