Caitlin Clark Fires Back After Reporter Brings Up Angel Reese Friendship

Caitlin Clark did not seem interested in giving the latest Angel Reese friendship question the answer the reporter expected. After Team USA won another gold medal, Clark made it clear that she was not going to play along with the idea that she and Reese suddenly became friends during the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The timing made the question even more awkward. Team USA had just beaten France 97-79 in the final on Sunday, Sept. 13, overcoming a 14-point deficit to win its fifth straight World Cup title. Clark scored 12 points in limited minutes and hit a big three during the comeback.

Caitlin Clark Wasn’t Buying The Premise

After the celebration, a reporter asked Clark if she and Angel Reese were friends “now.” Clark immediately pushed back on the wording, making it clear that the relationship did not suddenly change because they played together for Team USA.

That response was the real story. Clark did not deny that the two had a competitive history, but she rejected the suggestion that their friendship was something new that had to be discovered after years of headlines about their rivalry.

That distinction has mattered throughout this World Cup. Clark and Reese have repeatedly shown they can compete hard without carrying that competition into their relationship off the basketball court. That has become harder to ignore while they have worn the same uniform. Clark has praised Reese’s competitiveness, while Reese has talked about how familiar they are with each other’s games and how they can rely on one another.
