Mitchell Robinson Sends Strong Message After Leaving 2026 Champion Knicks for Celtics

· Yahoo Sports

NBA center Mitchell Robinson found a new home after the New York Knicks did not offer him a new deal this offseason. Robinson signed a three-year, $47.4 million contract with the Boston Celtics after winning the 2026 championship with the Knicks.

Throughout his career, Robinson has struggled with injuries. He played 60 games last season as part of a cautious management strategy to protect his long-term health after severe ankle injuries. He played 17 games the season before due to health issues.

Ahead of the 2026-27 season with his new team, Robinson had a strong message. He posted a video sharing his excitement and the work he put in for his ninth NBA season.

“Was working out with my coach in Boston. You know what he said? He didn’t know that I had the sh*t that I showed tonight. The ball handling, the shooting, the touch. Right now, I’m just so confident in myself,” Robinson said.

“I feel like this is gonna be a great year for me. I’m starting to take recovery a lot more serious.”

Mitchell Robinson has recovered well from his hand injury this offseason. Before the 2026 Finals started, Robinson dealt with a fractured fifth metacarpal (broken hand/pinky knuckle) in his right hand. Fortunately for the Knicks, their backup big man played in all five games to help them win the title.

Robinson is looking forward to playing for his new team. His addition has resolved the Celtics’ frontcourt problem from the previous campaign.

Neemias Queta Talks About Mitchell Robinson’s Signing

Last season, Neemias Queta was the Celtics’ starting center. Mitchell Robinson’s signing could jeopardize his starting position before the upcoming campaign. However, Queta is not worried about losing his starting spot.

“I’m not too worried about (how the Robinson deal changes the big man rotation),” he said. “That’s a (Boston head coach) Joe (Mazzulla) thing to figure out.”

“I’m out there just welcoming my new teammates (with) open arms. Mitchell’s going to be a great addition for us. I’m extremely happy I don’t have to go against him anymore because he used to get all these rebounds.”

Queta loves the idea of having Robinson as a teammate. He described the one-time champion as someone who’s accomplished and a big man who can guard multiple positions. He also said the big man is one of the best rebounders in the league.

Queta is excited to play alongside his new teammate.
