In what was the first international game in Australia, a packed MCG Ground witnessed the Rams repeatedly fall short against the 49ers.
Myles Garrett, who was their big summer acquisition and reigning Defensive Player of the Year, also had a bad game as he failed to register even a single tackle against the 49ers.
With Garrett and another defensive stalwart in Aaron Donald on their roster, many picked the Rams as their early season favourites to not just see the look on their coach’s celebration.
Renowned journalist Skip Bayless pointed out how the opening week loss could prove to be motivational for Sean McVay’s side.
Bayless speaks on the Rams preseason hype
The Rams already had one of the most explosive offensive units, with MVP Matthew Stafford leading the way for them.
With both their units solid and balanced, many picked the Rams as favourites to win it all.
However, the Rams humbled them with one of the best displays from Kyle Shanahan’s men over the last few years.
“I am going to make a case where it will become the best thing that could’ve happened to this Rams team,” said Bayless on the Gridiron.
“They got annihilated, dominated, humiliated on a solo stage game on Netflix,
“I can’t remember a team who are prohibitedly favoured.”
Many analysts had the Rams go 17-0, as such is the talent they have on the roster.
They will be hoping to work on their defense and help Garrett get back to the level he was playing at last season, as that will help them significantly in trying to win it all.
