Bayern Munich will begin their UEFA Champions League journey this season on Thursday at the Allianz Arena, taking on Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in their opening league-phase fixture.

Under Vincent Kompany, Bayern arrive in a confident mood after a strong start to the 2026–27 campaign. They opened the season by winning the DFL-Supercup, beating Borussia Dortmund 2–1, then followed that with commanding victories against Osnabrück (4–1) and VfB Stuttgart (5–1).
Their run of consecutive wins came to an end at the weekend when they were held to a 0–0 Bundesliga draw away to Schalke 04, but they remain unbeaten in all competitions so far. Historically, Bayern have been very strong in Champions League openers, having won each of their last 22 first matches in the competition.

Bayern receive an important boost with Jamal Musiala available again for selection. The creative midfielder missed the first three competitive games of the season after a neurological issue – described as an absence-seizure condition – was identified in pre-season.
He has since rebuilt his match sharpness and featured as a substitute against Schalke at the weekend, and Kompany has now given him the green light to start in his favoured number 10 role.
However, Serge Gnabry is still not ready to return. He is making good progress in training after a long-term adductor problem, but the club are being especially careful with his rehabilitation and will not rush him back.
Young centre-back Tarek Buchmann is also unavailable, having had ankle surgery over the summer. In his absence, Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano are expected to form the central defensive partnership.
