Alabama football witnessed an impressive debut from new quarterback Keelon Russell. But the Crimson Tide head into Kentucky week hobbled. Head coach Kalen DeBoer has three key Tide members landing on the Wednesday injury report.

College football insider Pete Nakos revealed who is dealing with ailments ahead of Alabama’s SEC opener.

“Alabama running back AK Dear and defensive back Jireh Edwards are questionable for Saturday at Kentucky. Offensive lineman Michael Carroll is doubtful,” Nakos posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Dear is dealing with a bad ankle. Edwards walks in with an arm injury.

Meanwhile, Kentucky looks like it’ll be restrengthened in the backfield.

“The Wildcats will have Oklahoma transfer running back Jovantae Barnes back after missing the season opener,” Nakos added.

The Crimson Tide will look for Russell to build off his stellar debut against East Carolina. He went 18-of-30 for 256 yards and added 86 rushing yards with one rushing score.

But Alabama will need a huge week two out of more than Russell. Wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams endured a rather up-and-down performance. Coleman-Williams delivered a team-high five catches for 130 yards, but dropped the ball twice including one deep. The now junior wideout continues to deal with inconsistent hands despite his explosive play-making ability.

Alabama already faces new pressure in season three of the DeBoer era. The head coach hasn’t guided Alabama to an SEC title or even national championship post Nick Saban. Granted, DeBoer got the Tide into the College Football Playoffs and defeated SEC rival Oklahoma to start their postseason run. But Indiana walloped Alabama inside the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Now Alabama faces an upset-minded Kentucky team featuring Will Stein leading UK as head coach.
