As odd as it sounds after getting a season-opening victory against a team projected to make the College Football Playoff, No. 6 Oregon is in need of a get-right game.

That could be bad news for Oklahoma State.
The Ducks (1-0) and Cowboys (0-1) will square off at 9 a.m. PT Sept. 12 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater with Oregon attempting to win its FBS-leading 13th straight road game.
The Ducks will enter the nonconference game determined to start fast, play clean and dominate in a way they couldn't against Boise State last weekend when they had to rally to beat the Broncos 34-27 at Autzen Stadium thanks in part to quarterback Dante Moore, who completed 28 of 37 passes for a career-best 378 yards and three touchdowns.
Oregon's performance against Boise State – despite the win – caused the Ducks to drop four spots in the latest polls after earning a No. 2 preseason ranking.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Monday he was pleased with the way his players have responded this week.
"Certainly, our guys were anxious to get to work today," Lanning said. "... You see a result like that for us, and ultimately there were some things that we did that were really good in the game, and then there were some things we didn't do well in the game as well. There were individual performances that were really positive and then some that weren't. But ultimately, we just came out slow."
In Oklahoma State, the Ducks will face a team that has a new coach in Eric Morris, who led North Texas to an 11-2 record in 2025, and 91 new players. The Cowboys opened the season last Saturday with a 24-10 road loss to Tulsa.
"Got a ton of respect for coach Morris and what we are about to face in Oklahoma State," Lanning said. "This will be his first home game there and I'm sure it will be an unbelievable atmosphere. I've actually never coached there but I hear they do a really good job.”

Why Oregon has an advantage: The Ducks have more talent and depth at every position. They had 13 returning starters on offense and defense Saturday against Boise State, including five who were USA TODAY Sports preseason all-Americans. The Cowboys have two players who were preseason all-Big 12 selections. There should be every expectation that Oregon will move the ball with regularity, hit big plays and get into the end zone. The defense, with its talent up front and in the secondary, should also be able to contain Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker and top playmakers Caleb Hawkins at running back and Wyatt Young at receiver.
Why Oklahoma State has an advantage: Mestemaker didn't have the best debut against Tulsa, but he is a proven performer who thrived under Morris at North Texas in 2025 when he led the nation in passing yards (4,379) and was second in touchdown passes (34). The Cowboys will also be playing at Boone Pickens Stadium for the first time this season and will have the home field advantage in more ways then one, with an early kickoff time and the temperature expected to be in the low 90s – a temperature that's been reached only six times in Eugene since fall camp started on Aug. 5, and only twice since Aug. 8.

For Oregon: The Ducks' injury list for their first game included a few surprises, most notably receivers Jalen Lott and Iverson Hooks, who didn't suit up for Boise State. Lanning said Monday that Lott, a five-star freshman, had surgery on his hand and will miss some more time. Lanning said Hooks tweaked his hamstring in the days leading up to the game against the Broncos but is expected back this week. Also not in uniform was running back Simeon Price, as well linebacker Brayden Platt, defensive tackles Tony Cumberland and Anthony Jones, receiver Dillon Gresham and outside linebacker Prince Tavizon.
For Oklahoma State: Morris announced Tuesday that starting left tackle Jacob Sexton is out for the season with a leg injury he suffered against Tulsa on the Cowboys' first drive of the season. Tight ends Oscar Hammond and Donovan Green are also questionable.

The Ducks will not trail Saturday
Oregon was down 17-7 heading into the final minute of the first half against Boise State before outscoring the Broncos 27-10 the rest of the game. That sort of deficit won't be the case against the Cowboys. Expect the Ducks to score early and often and lead comfortably for the majority of the game.
Oregon's defense will terrorize Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker
The Cowboys' quarterback is operating behind a makeshift offensive line that is down to its third-string left tackle and coming off a game against Tulsa during which Mestemaker dealt with consistent pressure. He was sacked twice, hit 10 times, threw two interceptions and fumbled once. Against Boise State, Oregon's starting defensive line of Bear Alexander, Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti and A'Mauri Washington combined for 21 tackles, three sacks and five QB hits. Advantage Ducks.
Oregon will cut its week one penalty total by half
Back in the day, there would've been several Ducks running stadium stairs or rolling the length of the football field at practice Monday for some inexcusable mental mistakes in Saturday's win. Oregon had 10 penalties for 90 yards against the Broncos, including unsportsmanlike flags on Alexander and safety Peyton Woodyard, three pre-snap penalties on the offense and an offsides call on Washington when Boise State was going for it in fourth-and-6. Lanning has addressed those miscues publicly a couple of times, so it's fair to assume they've also been addressed behind closed doors. Expect the Ducks to have a much cleaner performance.
