The Champions League league-phase draw has given Bayern Munich a fascinating collection of opponents, and board member for sport Max Eberl is already looking ahead to what promises to be another demanding European campaign.

Bayern Munich will face Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, Lille, and Viking away from home, while Arsenal is among the notable opponents coming to Munich. Eberl believes the schedule provides plenty of exciting matchups while also setting a clear target for Vincent Kompany’s team.
“We’re really looking forward to the new Champions League season. We have some highly anticipated away games against Atlético, Manchester United, Lille and Viking. At home, we have opponents we can beat, but also, among others, last season’s finalists Arsenal. We want to finish in the top 8, that is the clear objective,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The top-eight target is significant because finishing in that position would send Bayern Munich directly into the Champions League Round of 16, avoiding the playoff round.
There should be no shortage of difficult tests. Atlético and Manchester United provide two high-profile away trips, while Arsenal will offer Bayern Munich a major challenge at the Allianz Arena. At the same time, Eberl clearly believes Bayern Munich have been handed a schedule where a top-eight finish is achievable.
