If you’re having a bad day, a bad week, even a bad month, we present some motivation from some of Delaware’s best high school football players.

“Don’t let one play define your entire game,” Newark Charter wide receiver Cayden Anderson said. “… I take this into real life, as well. Don’t let one bad day define your week, or one bad hour of your day define the entire day.”
These guys are coached to face problems head on, and it shows.
“There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs in a game, but you kind of just have to keep your head up and face the adversity no matter what,” Tatnall quarterback Brett Greene said.
“You’ve got to finish hard in everything you do,” Howard quarterback Jameson Bryant said. “School, football, anything you want to accomplish in life. You can’t start off slow.”
Those are just some of the pearls of wisdom we unearthed while interviewing dozens of athletes at the two Delaware Online Fall High School Sports Media Days, on Aug. 11 at Woodbridge High and Aug. 12 at Abessinio Stadium.
Our photographers also produced hundreds of high-quality portraits, and it is time to unveil the photos from the 40 football teams that came to the two venues.
The photos and entertaining videos were a big part of each day, as players and coaches from a total of 103 football, field hockey and girls volleyball teams gathered to kick off the preseason.

It was great to see old friends catching up, talking about the fun they had over the summer and looking forward to starting their high school seasons again.
But it wasn’t all motivational. When asked what football has taught him, Charter of Wilmington’s Tyler Shelton had an answer that every lineman will love.
“Best lesson I’ve learned is the harder you hit somebody, the more fun you’re having,” he said.
Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists served as the presenting sponsor for both events. Caruso’s Pizza and Pasta in Georgetown provided lunch at Woodbridge, while Bachetti Brothers Catering provided lunch at Abessinio.
Thanks to Woodbridge football coach/athletic director Marvin Dooley and his staff for providing an outstanding venue for the downstate event.
Thanks to director of stadium operations Kevin Weeks, Salesianum football coach Gene Delle Donne and Sallies athletic director Katie Orga Godfrey for showcasing Abessinio Stadium for the upstate event.
