United taking on Liverpool in their opening Premier League match of the season.
Matthias Jaissle and his players looking to inject some positivity and momentum now the actual competitive football is kicking off.
Joe Cole declaring to Paddy Power: “Two new mangers, plenty of change. I was a little bit apprehensive about Andoni Iraola coming in but when I sat back and thought about it… he has a similar style to Jurgen Klopp so I think he’ll be a big hit. Where are the goals coming from with Liverpool now though, maybe they’re going to be sharing them around. That said, Newcastle United are going to be an absolute mess this year.”
Obviously it has been a huge summer of change for Newcastle United, on and off the pitch.
No surprise to hear so many pundits and journalists automatically assuming this season will be a disaster for NUFC.
Indeed, fair to say that a lot of Newcastle United fans themselves are worrying about how the upcoming season will turn out.
With change, it also brings opportunity. Matthias Jaissle and the players, new signings and inherited ones, will all be wanting to prove themselves. How quickly the new half dozen young new signings can integrate and perform, could well be crucial. Although arguably, especially early in the season, the players who are Premier League experienced need to lead the fight to take on this tough looking season.
One-time Liverpool star Joe Cole adding: “I really fancy a big away win. I’ll go 3-0 to Liverpool and crisis meetings at St James’ Park. Alexander Isak to score is written in the stars with him going back to Newcastle. He does need to up it big time this season, though.”
There is the challenge.
Joe Cole (and others) taking for granted that Newcastle United are going to fail, both on Sunday and this season in general.
Cole predicts a 3-0 defeat for Newcastle United and Alexander Isak to score at least once on Sunday. Isak made 21 Premier League and Champions League appearances for Liverpool last season and only scored three goals. There is of course huge pressure on Matthias Jaissle and his players but you have to say there is surely far greater pressure on Andoni Iraola and his players, especially Alexander Isak.
As Eddie Howe might say ahead of such a match, “Get into them” and let’s see what happens on Sunday.
