With UFC BJJ 10 in the books and producing a lot of submissions, it saw a new featherweight champion crowned, the best possible flyweight title finals, and Andrew Tackett continue to be the face of the promotion.

Headlining the stacked Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) card was Tackett, who defended early leg lock attempts by countering with a slick back take that trapped Jonnatas Gracie’s arm. He then locked in a pretty brutal submission, crushing his jaw and forcing a tap. The impressive first round finish marked Tackett’s fourth welterweight title defense, the most in the promotion.

Tackett then went on to call out several big names like BJJ stars Jozef Chen, Mica Galvao and a potential CJI rematch with Kade Ruotolo, before moving on to ask for UFC fighters.

“I think most of the jiujitsu people are scared. I don’t think they’ll step up to go against me, so I’m going to call out MMA fighters because I know they have balls,” Tackett said on his post-fight interview.

“First MMA fighter I want to call out is Sean Brady,” Tackett said, naming who he feels has the best grappling in the UFC. “Now, another call out that I want is Paddy Pimblett. That man goes off with the submissions… So Paddy, if you think you can beat me, which I guarantee you can’t, come step into the UFC BJJ ring.”

Brady and Pimblett have strong grappling by MMA standards, but these would still likely be a complete mismatch against a world class specialist like Tackett. While I’d personally prefer if he’d be in competitive and intriguing match ups against any of the actual jiujitsu stars he listed, it’s worth noting that UFC BJJ’s other top star in Mikey Musumeci will be in a crossover (mis)match against Bryce Mitchell next.

Adele Fornarino and Cassia Moura advance, books best possible flyweight match up in BJJ

Adele Fornarino and Cassia Moura each got quick submissions at UFC BJJ 10, dominating their semifinal match ups and advancing to the flyweight tournament finals. Coming in as the favorites, Fornarino scored a quick footlock over Carol Brunacio, while Moura had an armbar over Bre Stikk to take care of business.

They advanced to meet for the inaugural title at 125 lbs later this year, and in the process, the UFC BJJ also got the best possible flyweight match up in the entire sport.

The two jiujitsu stars are considered among the best pound-for-pound. Fornarino is the reigning ADCC double gold medalist, and the first to ever win titles at both the lightest division and open weight. Moura, on the other hand, has won IBJJF world titles from featherweight to heavyweight, with the UFC BJJ bantamweight champion now looking for her second belt with the promotion.

Other big winners on the card was Andrew’s brother, William Tackett and Vagner Rocha, who had submission wins over Fedor Nikolov and Andy Varela, respectively. The long time UFC and BJJ veteran landed an inappropriately named finish that he now wants to call a “crescent choke.”
