According to sources, around 3,500 hutments are located in Sector 6 of the Meghwadi-Ganesh Nagar in Dharavi, which falls on railway land. So far, 379 structures have been demolished, while 890 tenements have been vacated. These structures are awaiting electricity meter disconnection before demolition is carried out in the coming weeks.
Officials said the rehabilitation process has made significant progress, with most of the remaining residents either signing rehabilitation agreements or undergoing document verification before shifting to alternate accommodation.
The project had witnessed protests from a section of residents from the Ganesh Nagar-Meghwadi area. However, sources said many of them have since participated in the grievance redressal process. Of the nearly 125 residents who had opposed the eviction, around 80 have appeared before the Dharavi Redevelopment Project to present their claims.

Meanwhile, construction of a 36-storey rehabilitation building is progressing at the site. According to sources, the first allotments in the building will be made to railway employees, in accordance with the agreement between the project implementing agency and the Indian Railways.
Officials said the redevelopment is being executed in phases, with demolition and rehabilitation proceeding simultaneously to ensure the land is cleared while eligible occupants are rehabilitated. Once the railway staff are accommodated, the rehabilitation of other eligible beneficiaries under the project will continue as planned.
