The New York Jets are counting on Adonai Mitchell to take a significant step forward in his second season with the franchise.

Traded from the Indianapolis Colts on November 4, 2025, Mitchell and two first-round picks (2026 (No. 16) and 2027) were packaged and sent to Florham Park in exchange for cornerback Sauce Gardner

Fingers are crossed for a breakout.

Based on Garrett Wilson's comments, the star receiver believes that scenario is realistic, and it's only a matter of time before it happens.

Speaking after the Jets' first training camp practice, Wilson described Mitchell as a "ticking time bomb" before expressing his excitement about finally sharing the field with him for a full season.

"Whenever Sunday comes, let's do what we've been doing, make plays, do it when the world is watching," Wilson said.

That's exactly what the Jets are hoping to see from a receiver expected to line up opposite Wilson in 2026. Mitchell flashed his playmaking ability after arriving in last year's blockbuster trade, and the organization believes another offseason in the system could unlock even more of his potential.

General manager Darren Mougey echoed that optimism during his own media session, saying he's excited to watch Mitchell continue developing as training camp unfolds.

The Jets have assembled an offense with no shortage of weapons, but Mitchell could be the player who determines just how dangerous the passing game becomes. If Wilson's prediction proves accurate, opposing defenses may soon discover why so many inside the organization are expecting a breakout season from the talented young receiver.
