Former Timberwolves Wing Is Optimistic About LaMelo Ball’s Fit in Minnesota

LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards are going to be one of the most intriguing duos in the NBA next season and their combined ascent through the league as they lead the Minnesota Timberwolves' already aggressive offense will be a site to behold. 

The pair make sense from a technical side with Edwards' athletic, drive-and-finish style of play that he's further enhances with an improved three point while Ball, with his intricate passing and long distancing shooting, provides an ideal partner to Edwards as both a playmaker and a secondary offensive threat who can space the floor.

Timberwolves games will be factories for highlight reels between both guards and they have the attention-grabbing personalities to match their electric play styles. Fun is going to be a big expectation for the Minnesota backcourt this season, but they also have an opportunity to grow together.

Both Edwards and Ball are 24-years-old and each have taken steps toward maturity as players as their careers have gone on.

Projecting Ball's Growth

Ball in particular will be looked at for more growth in his maturity as a player, but former Timberwolves player Corey Brewer, who played six of his 13 seasons in the NBA with Minnesota, is excited about the growth that he's already seen from the young point guard and is even more excited about what he'll be able to accomplish playing with Edwards.

“I actually like that pairing just because I think LaMelo, he’s getting a lot more serious about basketball,” Brewer said (via Heavy). “I think he’s gonna be a winning basketball player, and I think it’s a good move for him. A new place, fresh start. Playing with Anthony Edwards, so they’re gonna be fun to watch. Both those guys are very talented, and they’re gonna be fun to watch."

A fresh start for Ball and the new scenery he'll be exposed to can do a lot for his career. The Charlotte Hornets, where Ball came from, is a fun and young team that followed the tone of Ball as their offensive leader, but now that he's in Minnesota he'll be playing with a team that know's what it's like to go far in the playoffs, but have been stopped just short each time.

The expectations and the energy around this new team will be different than anything else Ball has been faced with before and now that he has more of a partnership with Edwards than being expected to be the main offensive force like he was with the Hornets, Ball has all of the ingredients to take a major leap as a player himself, as Brewer is predicting. 

Brewery also spoke on the most obvious aspect of the Edwards Ball pairing, that being the amount of fun basketball that the pair will produce. The Timberwolves have some stiff competition around them when it comes to the talent in the Western Conference, but something that can't be denied is that an Edwards and Ball led team will likely be one of the most fun to watch teams in the NBA.
