CHICAGO — Caitlin Clark’s pitch for LeBron James to become an Indiana Pacer was just a little too late.

James, the future NBA Hall of Famer, has been mulling over the decision of his next team for weeks after he announced he would not be returning to the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans across the country have been waiting with bated breath and throwing out their pitches for him to pick their favorite team.

Clark joined the fray on Friday morning, talking at WNBA All-Star Media Day at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

“He gets to play alongside Tyrese (Haliburton) and Pascal (Siakam), which I think would be really fun and incredible,” Clark said. “I know he’s played (for) mostly large-market teams … but I think that’s what makes the Pacers and the Fever fans so special, this means so much to them. Indiana is a true basketball state, one of the biggest basketball states in the country, and people truly care about the game there.

“It would probably be the most fun home environment that he’s got to play in,” she added. “Just from the level of knowledge people have about the game of basketball in the state of Indiana, the love that they have, and it would be awesome. I would be a courtside season-ticket holder, absolutely, be at every game.”

But Clark’s message didn’t get to James in time. Just minutes after her pitch, James announced on X that he was signing with the Philadelphia 76ers for the final two years of his career.

And, deep down, Clark had a different spot she wanted him to land.

“The 76ers? Wow. Wow,” Clark said later in her availability when she was told where James signed. “Selfishly, I wanted the (Golden State) Warriors, because Steph (Curry) and Bron would’ve been absolutely insane together, but they have some serious talent on the 76ers. Arguably maybe one of the favorites in the East now with the Knicks, and obviously the Pacers. … I’ll be watching more 76ers games. Obviously, I’m a big fan of Bron, so no matter where he goes, I’m probably going to root for that team. I’m gonna wait for the NBA schedule to come out and make sure I have my tickets reserved when they play the Pacers.”
