Florida baseball earned a commitment from Samford catcher Eddie Marshall on Wednesday, July 1.

Marshall was named to the SoCon All-Conference Freshman Team after hitting .252 with 12 homers and 27 RBIs in 137 at-bats.

The Lighthouse Point, Florida, native saw action behind the plate, at first base and as a designated hitter for the Bulldogs. He made one error last year, but only threw out two baserunners in 19 attempts.

Marshall is the ninth player that the Gators have added from the transfer portal and the second catcher. At the start of the window, Florida earned a commitment from ASUN Player of the Year Jon Embury, who spent the last two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast.

Embury batted .364 and belted 13 doubles, 17 home runs and drove in 60 runs. He recorded a team-best OPS of 1.084 and a .655 slugging percentage.

In total, the Gators will have four catchers on next year’s roster along with returner AJ Malzone and incoming true freshman Luke Labbe.
