Following the road trip, which concluded with a 6-5 loss against the Guardians on Sunday in which the Mariners surrendered five runs in the eighth inning, the M's are 42-43 and a half-game out of first place in the American League West.

Seattle will have very little downtime to bounce back from its trip away from home and will begin a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels at 6:40 p.m. PT at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Ahead of the three-game series against their division rivals, the Mariners have attempted to bolster their depth against left-handed pitching.

On Sunday, Seattle acquired right-handed-hitting infielder Buddy Kennedy from the San Francisco Giants in return for cash considerations.

The Mariners added Kennedy to the 40-man roster in return upon acquiring him in the trade.

Kennedy is a versatile infielder who has played first, second and third base in his career.

The 27-year-old was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of high school. He made his major league debut in 2022 with the Diamondbacks.

Since his debut, he's also registered big league time with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Kennedy elected free agency after the conclusion of last season and signed a minor league deal with San Francisco. He began the year with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, had his contract selected June 1 and was designated for assignment June 28.

Kennedy has registered 74 games and 164 at-bats in the major leagues since his debut in 2022. The most games he's played in a single season was 30 with Arizona in his first year in the big leagues.

Over the course of his career, Kennedy has slashed .171/.265/.262 with a .527 OPS and has hit five doubles, two triples and two home runs with 20 RBIs. He's yet to record a hit this season in seven at-bats across as many games.

Kennedy will provide Seattle depth in the infield and a right-handed bat, despite his career splits having a slight margin of difference against left-handed hurlers and righties.

Seattle has Josh Naylor as the incumbent starter against lefties and righties this season. Connor Joe and Patrick Wisdom are both with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers and the latter is capable of starting at either of the corners.
