Where did MSU football land in latest On3 preseason power rankings?

Add another national media member to the long list of people that are expecting Michigan State football to struggle this upcoming season.

Ari Wasserman of On3 released new preseason Big Ten power rankings for the upcoming season and let's just say he isn't high on the Spartans in year one under new head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Like many national analysts, Wasserman has Michigan State listed near the bottom of his conference power rankings, with the Spartans coming in at No. 17.

The only team Wasserman had Michigan State ahead of is Purdue. The Spartans are right behind Rutgers at No. 15 and Maryland at No. 16.

Michigan State currently owns the longest active bowl drought in the Big Ten, with the Spartans last finishing above .500 and reaching a bowl game in 2021. The recent struggles combined with poor ratings in the transfer portal haul has many like Wasserman not expecting much success from the green-and-white this upcoming season.

I personally am bullish on Michigan State under Fitzgerald this upcoming season and think they are more set to be a middle-tier Big Ten team. I have full expectations of them reaching a bowl game, which would surely put them higher than No. 17 out 18 teams in the league. But I also don't blame analysts like Wasserman for wanting to see some success before expecting it.
