The Royals lose a key outfielder, with a timetable on a return unknown.

The Kansas City Royals announced Wednesday they have placed outfielder Kyle Isbel on the 10-day injured list with left foot plantar fasciitis. In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled outfielder Kameron Misner from Triple-A.

Isbel exited Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers. He sustained the injury when he aggressively rounded first base and stopped abruptly after he hit a single to open the bottom of the seventh inning. Isbel was immediately checked upon by the Royals’ training staff and was replaced by a pinch-runner.

The team is currently awaiting results from an MRI before they are able to set a timeline for Isbel’s return. He had recently been playing through the discomfort in his foot until it was further aggravated.

Holding down center field, Isbel has been integral for the Royals defensively and at the back end of their batting order. In 56 games this season, the left-handed hitter has hit for a .244 average with a .298 on-base percentage in 183 plate appearances.

Over the past four seasons, Isbel has consistently anchored center field. His bat has never been the strongest and is often below league-average, but his solid defense makes up most of his production.

Isbel’s injury should pave the way for Misner to see an opportunity in the Royals outfield, which has ranked towards the bottom of the league offensively.

A Missouri native, Misner will be making his Royals debut and his first appearance in the major leagues this season. In Triple-A Omaha this year, Misner batted .276 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI over the course of 59 games. However, his swing-and-miss rates are at a high clip of 27%, a consistent facet of his game.

Misner was acquired by the Royals in a trade after the Tampa Bay Rays designated him for assignment in November of last year. He has played in 79 games with the Rays over the course of the past two seasons, appearing in 71 games in 2025.

The former first-round pick possesses high bat speed, a strong arm in the outfield and a solid baserunning ability, stealing 11 bases this season. Misner can play anywhere in the outfield but has primarily played center field in Triple-A this year. In Wednesday’s game, Lane Thomas got the starting nod in center field against a lefty starting pitcher.

In anticipation of a potential move, Misner was already with Kansas City on Wednesday before the decision became official. The Royals anticipate they will receive a timeline for Isbel’s return in the coming days.
