Marcus Rashford’s recent seasons have been some of the more turbulent ones of his career, struggling to find game time at his boyhood club, Manchester United, to finding playing time elsewhere, first at fellow Premier League side, Aston Villa, before joining the likes of La Liga giants, Barcelona.

While his time in the West Midlands would see Rashford show streaks of his offensive brilliance, recording nine goal involvements, with four of them coming in the Champions League, his time at the Camp Nou be where things really started to take a turn for the Three Lions’ forward.

Across his 49 appearances for Barcelona, Rashford would record 25 goal involvements, the most he’s had since the 2022-23 season, playing a pivotal role in the Catalan club’s La Liga winning run, as well as their run up to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

All things were looking up for Rashford, with talks of his loan spell being made permanent given the €30m buy clause tucked in the loan agreement being everywhere at the end of the season.

The Catalan club’s brutal decision

However, it appears that Barcelona have made up their minds regarding what they’re going to do with the clause, with five days left before it is reportedly set to expire: they’re sending him back to Old Trafford.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish side will not be picking up the aforementioned offer, but they aren’t closing the door on a potential return to the Camp Nou for Rashford.

The move might not come as much of a surprise given Barcelona’s recent moves in the forward department, signing the likes of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in the early days of the offseason, as well as their rumored interest in the likes of Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez. It’s safe to say that the Catalan club, which also has some financial woes to look over, is set to have quite the packed forward department.
