Also nominated were Newark Catholic baseball player Owen Przymierski, Bexley tennis player Harrison Lessard and Liberty Christian baseball player Dawson Kamppi.
Haqq, the runner-up, had three goals and one assist and picked up four ground balls in a 12-7 win over Olentangy Liberty in the Division I, Region 1 final.
Przymierski struck out 11 without a walk and allowed one earned run in a one-hitter in a 4-2 win over Shekinah Christian in a Division VII tournament game.
After winning two matches in the state individual tournament but having to retire from and forfeit his last two because of an injury, Lessard's 7-5, 7-6 win over Cincinnati Indian Hill's Gareth Kurowski clinched the Lions' first Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Division II state team tournament championship in nine years.
Kamppi struck out nine of the 13 batters he faced in a 10-0 win over Northside Christian in a Division VII tournament game. He and Seth Mollohan combined on a five-inning perfect game.
The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.
Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week. The boys poll is live until 4 p.m. Fridays. The girls poll is live until 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Anyone can nominate an athlete by email to [email protected] or through X (formerly Twitter) tagging @BrianWhite13.
Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
