In a game where both teams traded leads, the San Antonio Spurs seemed to be surging in the fourth quarter on a comeback, fueled by big plays in the final moments. However, they also made major mistakes and missed opportunities.

The Knicks took advantage of those mistakes, much like they did in Game 1. Along with that, they received solid contributions from four of their starters, including Karl-Anthony Towns, who has been a major factor in both wins.

Magic Johnson took notice, delivering a strong message about Towns after seeing how the Knicks delivered a second road win in their NBA Finals journey.

“Victor Wembanyama played a spectacular game tonight with 29 points and 9 rebounds, but his turnover in the closing seconds proved too costly for the Spurs to get the win,” Johnson wrote in his X message. “Karl-Anthony Towns was impressive on both ends of the floor, dominating the first half and making nothing easy for Wembanyama defensively, finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds.”

Towns also had four assists, a steal, and a block, as he continues to exert his experience and size. The Knicks have clearly figured out how to contain Wemby, thanks to Towns, Robinson, and other defenders, keeping him mostly away from the paint so he can’t dominate there and instead settles for outside jumpers.

In Game 1, Towns also had a double-double, finishing with 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and a block in a 105-95 win. Assuming a Knicks’ NBA Finals win, and depending on how the rest of the games go, the NBA Finals MVP could end up in Towns’ hands, if not Brunson’s.

The NBA legend Magic Johnson also praised the Knicks’ reserves, including Mikal Bridges and Landry Shamet, for keeping things under control while Jalen Brunson and Towns were on the bench. In addition, he celebrated Brunson’s clutch shot and free throws in New York’s win.

All of those were massive in the win, but the Knicks and Towns will need to continue that same effort. The Spurs are now on the ropes and realize another loss means they’re one game away from being swept from their first Finals.

Game 3 between the Spurs and Knicks arrives Monday at 8.30 p.m. ET in New York City.
