Prior to joining Gloucester, Carson won the top flight of English women's rugby while with Saracens in 2022.

The club announced the contract extension on X, initially teasing that the 27-year-old had "resigned" instead of "re-signed".

There have been plenty of comings and goings at the club in recent weeks, with England captain Zoe Stratford, fellow World Cup winner Tatyana Heard and Sarah Beckett all leaving to join Sale this summer.

Wales international centre Hannah Dallavalle is staying after signing a new deal last week.

Gloucester-Hartpury are guaranteed to finish top of the PWR regular season table with one fixture remaining, and will seek a fourth consecutive domestic crown when the play-offs start on 13 June.

Last Friday saw their 18-month-long unbeaten league run ended by Trailfinders.
