Penn State finally lands future QB from Class of 2027

· Yahoo Sports

Penn State has gotten commitments from players at a multitude of positions for the future. They are putting together some of the best recruiting classes in the nation, but the one thing that’s been missing is the quarterback.

Although Rocco Becht is the prime candidate to hold down the position this season, he is a redshirt senior who doesn’t have much time left in college. The Nittany Lions had been all in on five-star quarterback Will Mencl and four-star passer Peter Bourque, but they committed to Oregon and Virginia Tech respectively. Luckily, they’ve been linked to three-star signal caller Will Wood for a while now.

Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports made a crystal ball prediction earlier this week that had the Class of 2027 quarterback coming to Penn State, and today that became a reality. Wood told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals this afternoon that he is committing to the Nittany Lions and will look to become their quarterback of the future.

The position has been heavily scrutinized over the last decade, so Wood has an uphill battle to climb. Especially if Penn State makes use of their favorable 2026 schedule, the three-star quarterback will be facing a mountain of expectations.

Fortunately, Wood’s 247Sports scouting report suggests that he’s a big-game player who performs when the lights are at their brightest. Penn State quarterbacks have had issues winning big games and performing in the clutch as of late, so hopefully the future leader can change their fortunes.
