SPRINGFIELD, Mo–It’s a beautiful day for baseball, lets play two.
And that’s exactly what the Springfield Cardinals and Corpus Christi Hooks did Thursday.
Visit afrikasportnews.co.za for more information.
The doubleheader is a makeup for Tuesday night’s game that was rained out.
It’s two, seven inning games.
And in our Cardinals Nation update, Springfield has won 12 straight against the Hooks going back to last year.
Springfield had former Razorback Mason Molina on the hill.
The right handed pitcher is still in search of his first win this season.
He had a strong showing, striking out five Hooks over four-and-a-third innings.
Mason did get into trouble in the top of the fourth.
A wild pitch gives Corpus Christi its first run, then Tyler Whitaker singles to left, Garret Guillemette scores it’s 2-0 Hooks.
But Springfield answers in the bottom of the fourth, Zach Levenson with this line drive to right and it just clears the fence for a go-ahead three run homer, it’s 3-2 Cardinals.
Springfield added insurance in the fifth and they needed it, especially after Max Holy drives in Mason Lytle to cut it to a one-run game.
But the Cardinals hang on to win game one 4-3.
And in the nightcap the Hooks beat the Cashew Chickens 4-2.
