Commanders 2026 draft rumors: Tracking latest news, buzz and reports

· Yahoo Sports

The 2026 NFL Draft is almost here. Teams have completed their pre-draft work, including meetings and workouts, leaving the media to run with all the latest draft rumors. Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters said it best last week:

"It's hard to really understand or figure out where everything's going to go, where everybody's going to go, and man, you hear something new every day, right?" Peters said. "Really everybody's, nobody's telling the truth."

Peters is right. No one, including him, is about to reveal anything of substance, although most teams will put some information out there to get others talking, which is why the rumor mill spins so aggressively.

We're rounding up all the latest rumors and reports surrounding the Commanders as the draft approaches, updating this story over the next two days, leading up to Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Ohio State WR Carnell Tate is their guy

When ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager talks, you should listen. Schrager said he believes Carnell Tate is Washington's guy. He also said that USC WR Makai Lemon is sort of a wild card and something worth monitoring. Remember, the Commanders hosted both on top-30 visits.

Ohio State LB Sonny Styles is head coach Dan Quinn's guy

We've heard about how much the Commanders like Sonny Styles and Jeremiyah Love. Both are likely gone before Washington goes on the clock, but Todd McShay says he has it on "good authority" that Styles is head coach Dan Quinn's guy.

Titans passing on Jeremiyah Love?

Peter Schrager strikes again. Most of the talk surrounding the Cardinals using the No. 3 pick on Love feels like them trying to drum up trade interest. However, the Titans and Love at No. 4 have been a hot rumor since the 2026 NFL combine. Schrager says not so fast. Don't get excited, Washington fans, because it sounds like the Giants at No. 5 are ready to pounce if Love gets past Tennessee.

Commanders are the 'floor' for Jeremiyah Love

We've heard of how much Washington likes Love throughout the pre-draft process. It's almost felt like, at times, that the Commanders are daring others to pick Love. As we've gotten closer to the draft, it's clear that Love is not falling to Washington. If he does, it's a guarantee that he does not fall any further, with SI's Albert Breer calling the Commanders the "floor" for Love.

Trade down unlikely?

Commanders GM Adam Peters almost said as much last week. He doesn't reveal a lot, but even he admitted it was more likely that Washington would remain at No. 7 and pick. This doesn't mean Peters wouldn't want to move back, but it could also be him realizing there are too few teams willing to move up. It could also be a case of Peters wanting to land a blue-chip talent, something that's less likely if the Commanders move back. The voice of the Commanders, Bram Weinstein, agrees, calling a move back "unlikely."

Of course, things could change on draft night if Washington's phone rings and a team is desperate. Remember, the Commanders are without picks in the second and fourth rounds.
