Bhiwandi, April 2: In a proactive step towards safeguarding women’s health, the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its public outreach, urging citizens to ensure HPV vaccination for adolescent girls. The appeal comes amid rising concerns over cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women in India.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sandeep Gadekar has called upon parents to come forward and vaccinate their daughters under the ongoing government-led HPV immunisation drive. The campaign specifically targets girls who have completed 14 years of age but are below 15.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Gadekar highlighted that thousands of new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed annually, making prevention a critical public health priority.
He emphasised that the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is both safe and highly effective in significantly reducing the risk of developing the disease.
Free vaccination drive underway till June
The vaccination drive, launched on March 8 as per state and central government directives, will continue until June 8. Under this campaign, eligible girls are being administered a single dose of the Gardasil-4 vaccine free of cost.
The vaccine is available daily at all urban health centres under the municipal corporation, as well as at BGP Dispensary and IGM Hospital. Civic authorities have ensured that the process remains simple and accessible for all beneficiaries.
Registration process and coverage targets
To receive the vaccine, beneficiaries must carry a valid identification document such as an Aadhaar card, APAR ID, or school ID. This is necessary for registration on the government’s U-WIN portal, which also facilitates the issuance of a digital vaccination certificate.
According to municipal data, a recent survey has identified 6,120 girls within the 14–15 age group in the Bhiwandi civic limits. The administration aims to cover the maximum number of beneficiaries during the three-month campaign.
