Alex Cora omitted Anthony from the starting lineup following Tuesday's four-strikeout game. In the ninth inning, the manager had the outfielder pinch-hit for second baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Anthony responded by taking Astros closer Bryan Abreu deep for a solo home run, his first of the 2026 season. He went the opposite way to clear Daikin Park's high left-center fence.

Anthony began his first full season with immense expectations, and he started by reaching base four times on Opening Day. The 21-year-old then fell into a slump, going 1-for-17 with 10 strikeouts in four straight Red Sox losses.
Perhaps it's a reality check for those anticipating an MVP campaign in 2026, but it's also far too early to draw any meaningful conclusions.Â
Unfortunately for the Red Sox, Anthony's home run didn't affect Wednesday's outcome. Abreu recovered to record his first save of the season and conclude a three-game sweep for the Astros.
The Red Sox will attempt to snap a five-game losing snide when they host the San Diego Padres in Friday's home opener at 2:10 p.m. ET.
