Ingram, 29, came to the team in the offseason alongside Gradey Dick and a flurry of picks in exchange for Kawhi Leonard, but is yet to play a game due to a partial Achilles tear in the offseason. The Clippers are struggling without him, currently sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference with a 1-7 record on the year.

They’ve held big leads in their last two games, but lost both in heartbreaking fashion. When asked how he would help the Clippers close out games, he wasted no time in praising what they’ve done so far despite their lack of results.

“I actually want to commend those guys,” Ingram said. “Everybody is in new positions, asked to do more. The guys are trying. They’re playing really, really good defense. They’re trying to figure it out on the offensive end. When I come in, I want to play make and make it a little bit easier for guys to catch and shoot. Not make so many decisions. And when it gets down to it, be able to score.”

The Clippers rank near the bottom of the league in scoring, averaging just 109.1 points per game for 26th in the NBA, and adding Ingram into the mix would certainly be a huge boost for the team.

How Would Brandon Ingram Help the Clippers?

Ingram is coming off his second All-Star season, but has averaged 20 points per game or more since 2019-20. Widely regarded as a pure scorer, Ingram’s skillset is exactly what the Clippers have lacked so far this season.

Darius Garland currently leads the team in scoring, posting 20.9 points per game, and adding another top option next to him would be the perfect addition for the Lakers.

Last year, Ingram averaged 21.5 points per game with 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

How Close is Brandon Ingram to a Return?

The Clippers elevated Ingram from out to a game-time decision, but he may be out for another game or two before he sees the floor. The forward has resumed full-contact basketball activities, meaning a return is on the horizon for him.

Their next game comes against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. PT, and if Ingram misses that game, his next opportunity to make a difference would come Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns at 6:00 p.m. PT.
