On his account, Julius Malema has reposted several reports about the single EFF vote recorded at Orania’s Town Hal on Wednesday, 4 November.
Although he has not officially commented on it, several EFF supporters have expressed their amusement and approval at the bold move.
In 2024, EFF Treasurer-General Omphile Maotwe responded to news of th lone voter in the Afrikaner-town during the general elections.
Speaking to the SABC, she said: “We did get a vote (in Orania) and we are happy. We thank that revolutionary comrade. He must go and recruit more other people to vote for the EFF.”
She also appealed to white South Africans to support the EFF, saying: “White people must vote for the EFF because we need to live peacefully in this country, sharing the mineral resources of this country, sharing the wealth of this country.”

Last year, residents and community leaders in Orania spoke to actor and activist Siv Ngesi about the individual who boldly voted for the EFF during the 2024 general-elections.
“Everyone was talking about him,” said one man, while another believed that the voter was likely doing it for “attention.”
Orania Movement head Joost Strydom added that he had an idea of who the person could be.
“It was not a joke as far as I know. It was most probably a person from outside Orania who came to the polling station here. Probably a worker frowhethera surrounding farm”.
It’s unclear if the 2026 ysteEFF voter is the same person, or is even a resident of Orania.
‘ORANIA BELONGS TO US’
Over the years, the EFF has repeatedly claimed that Orania should not operate as an exclusively Afrikaner settlement, arguing that its residency and cultural policies undermine South Africa’s constitutional principles of equality and non-racialism.
Leader Julius Malema has also called for the town to be eradicated, stating during th party’s 2024 birthday rally: “Orania belongs to us. When we take over the Northern Cape and South Africa, we will build RDP houses in Orania and send our people to go stay there.”
He added: “Northern Cape is our land. It belongs to us. No one will sell the Northern Cape, not to the Boer or the colonisers”.
In, 225, the EFF pro, vincial chairperson Shadrack Tlhaole led a group of supporters in a march to the Northern Cape premier’s office, demanding aits review of Orania’s legal basis for existence.
Orania has fired back that it has a right to exist.
Freedom Front Plus (FFP) MP, Dr. Wynand Boshoff told The South African: “Since its founding, the FFP has been advocating self-determination, as embodied by Orania, among others. Therefore, the party unequivocally rejects the EFF’s demands.
“In a multi-ethnic country like South Africa, there is often a majority that pays lip service to recognising diversity but, in reality, denies it. Such a policy denies minorities the leeway to maintain a dynamic culture through various institutions. This is typically done in the name of national unity.
He added: “The opposite approach is to grant minorities all the room they need for cultural expression and even for government to promote such expression”.
