District 6 Tournament
Class 2A Semifinal
Westmont Hilltop 2, Cambria Heights 1 (2OT): Eli Brownlee's goal in second overtime lifted the top-seeded Hilltoppers past the fourth-seeded Highlanders.
After a cross inside the box from Matt Messina was originally punched away by Cambria Heights goalkeeper Owen Garrison, Max Marion headed the ball back toward the net. Brownlee, who rushed over 30 yards toward the goal as the chaos ensued, found the loose ball directly in front of the goal and buried the open shot.
"There was a lot of scrambling happening, and my brain was going pretty fuzzy at that point," Brownlee said. "I just saw myself wide open in front of the goal, and I'm so thankful that I was able to make a good touch and put it in the goal."
The Hilltoppers (15-1-3) will advance to the title game for the third consecutive year, which included a championship in the 2024 Class 1A final. Westmont Hilltop fell in the 2025 Class 1A title game against Carroll-McCort Catholic.
Garrison made 16 saves to keep the Highlanders in the game throughout the night.
"Their goalkeeper made a huge difference tonight," Hilltoppers coach Ed Corona said. "There were quite a few shots where we thought there was no chance he was stopping it, but he stopped almost everything we threw at him tonight and made it really difficult."
Following a scoreless first half, the Hilltoppers struck first with 25:28 remaining in regulation after Brayden Mandel took a through ball from Marion and buried a shot into the bottom right corner.
Cambria Heights (12-5-3) responded shortly after, however, as Ty McConnell's cross to the far right post connected with Nate Conaway as he tipped the ball past Hilltoppers keeper Luke Wesner.
Both teams had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Garrison made a diving save on Mandel with 55 seconds left and Wesner stopped a header by Mason Kline with less than 10 seconds remaining.
The Highlanders nearly won the game in overtime as McConnell broke free and sent a low shot to the far post, but the ball rolled just wide.
"Our guys played to the best of their abilities today," Cambria Heights coach Adam Strasser said. "They played as best as they could. I'm so proud of their effort and how hard they played against the No. 1 seed. I felt that we had chances to win, and unfortunately, the ball didn't fall our way, but I'm so proud of the effort."
Monday's matchup pitted the highest-scoring team in all classifications of District 6 (Cambria Heights, 91) against the team with the least goals allowed in all of District 6 (Westmont Hilltop, eight).
"Cambria Heights was a very tough team and very physical," Brownlee said. "They're an amazing team with an amazing senior class. They were the toughest team we played all year, and they really put us into perspective that we need to come into our next game with a better mindset as the top seed. Everyone is going to be out to get us, and we have to be prepared."
