Even before the visitors raced into their early lead, the Old Trafford faithful were clear on the source of their ongoing problems and took aim at those in the boardroom.
Before kick-off, Red Devils fans released hundreds of green and gold balloons in a nod to their previous protests against the club's majority owners, the Glazer family.
If that made uncomfortable viewing for the American overlords, worse was still to follow when the game ticked into 20:05, symbolising the year that they took charge.
Tennis balls were launched onto the pitch from the Stretford End and beyond, forcing United's latest Champions League encounter to be brought to a temporary halt.
Chants against the Glazers were also routinely aired including ones imploring them to 'sell up' after 21 years of financial mismanagement and chaotic decision-making.
