The police force issued a warning on Monday that parents had reported instances of sewing needles being found in candy their children had collected while trick-or-treating in the Upper Ottawa St.-Mohawk Rd. area of the East Mountain.

They said the affected candy included Aero, KitKat and Caramilk chocolate bars and that they believe the candy was handed out somewhere along Limeridge Rd. between Upper Ottawa and Upper Kenilworth Ave.

“Parents and caregivers are urged to inspect all Halloween candy before children eat it,” Hamilton Police said. “If you find anything suspicious, do not consume or discard it. Keep the candy and packaging and contact police.”

They asked anyone with information to contact the Division 30 staff sergeant at 905-546-3886.

Tampered candy reported in Upper Beaches

Multiple police forces in the GTA and across Canada were also probing similar incidents with Toronto Police investigating a report that tampered candy may have been handed out in the Upper Beaches area.

While cops had not confirmed to CP24 that there was a broader public safety concern, the outlet reported that a dad in the area found objects inside a KitKat bar and Tunnock’s caramel wafers, as well as Cadbury and Snickers products.

“My son opened up a KitKat and broke it open and found a needle inside it, like a sewing needle,” Barry Horn told CP24.

He also told the outlet that they had trick-or-treated in an area that included Enderby Rd., Norwood Rd., Kimberley Ave., Benlamond Ave. and Osborne Ave.
