Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers Had a Week 8 Performance That Didn’t Feel Real
· Yahoo Sports
Somehow, Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made it work.
The Buccaneers won for the second time in a row on Sunday, as they blanked the visiting Atlanta Falcons via a 16-0 score at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay. Mayfield didn’t even need to complete a pass for Tampa Bay to win.

The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback just took three pass attempts in the game and failed to complete one, as the Bucs opted to go for a run-heavy strategy amid a wet and sloppy field.
Running backs Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell carried most of the load for Tampa Bay’s offense, which got all of its 322 yards from the team’s ground attack.
Irving led everyone in the game with 170 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, while Gainwell added 140 rushing yards (zero TDs) on 25 carries. The Falcons didn’t even have more rushing yards as a team than either Irving or Gainwell, as Atlanta rushed for only 99 yards.

On Sept. 24, 1974, the Bills defeated the New York Jets to the tune of a 16-12 score without completing a pass, the only other time in the Super Bowl era that such a phenomenon took place in the NFL.
Tampa Bay can get back to relying on Mayfield, who also recently dealt with a thumb injury, more in Week 9, when they visit Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears for a game at Soldier Field in the Windy City.
The Buccaneers are now 3-5, good for second place in the NFC South Division standings.
